| With the tooth in place the surrounding bone is stimulated with each bite. Extracting a tooth leaves a large area(extraction socket) with no bone and immediately begins the process of resorption. There is continued loss of bone.

| In certain situations, an implant can be placed at the same time as the extraction. Voids created can be grafted during this time as well. Depending on the stability of the implant, sometimes the implant can be loaded immediately (the crown placed). If this is not possible then the crown is placed following 4-6months healing period.

| Depending on the size and the shape of the implant, sometimes a graft is not required.In this example the implant filled the extraction socket and provided the necessary stability. Depending on the stability of the implant, sometimes the implant can be loaded immediately (the crown placed). |
